Students and parents of The Galloway School in Friendswood packed the gymnasium for a 100th birthday salute to the school's founder, Marie Galloway. When Principal Bonnie Cerace led the crowd in a cheer, Galloway beamed and then smiled broadly as she posed for photos with students. Galloway decided not to make any special birthday requests this year. Sadly, her husband died before the school opened, but Marie continued the work and The Galloway School opened in 1993 with 19 students. Today, the school has 243 pupils ranging from pre-K to eighth grade. Galloway has a fairly regular presence at the school, driving in from her Memorial area home several times per month.
