Materials Performance Magazine Reveals the Winners of the First Readers? Choice Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards

Materials Performance Magazine Reveals the Winners of the First Readers? Choice Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards New awards recognize organizations and individuals whose innovations make strides toward reducing the $2.2 global cost of corrosion. In September 2011, Materials Performance magazine launched its first Readers? Choice Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards to find the most exciting innovations in the field of corrosion control worldwide. In January, 2012 all nominated innovations were posted online for voting which resulted in more than 7,000 votes cast for innovations representing groundbreaking advances in coatings and linings, cathodic protection, materials and design, instrumentation, testing, integrity assessment, chemical treatments, and other corrosion prevention and mitigation technologies. ?Our goal with this awards program is to provide a forum where anyone developing new and unique corrosion control technology can be showcased and recognized,? said NACE International Executive Director, Bob Chalker. The 2012 MP Readers? Choice Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards are (in alphabetical order): The Stauff Anticorrosion Technology (ACT) Clamp minimizes the contact between the clamp body and the pipe, and guards against the accumulation of seawater between itself and the pipe. The ACT clamp is unique in that it offers the same stability as other clamping solutions without complete encapsulation of the pipe at the pipe supports. Anticorrosive coatings with nanoparticles provide high levels of protection against corrosion when applied to steel and concrete structures by increasing the barrier to oxygen, humidity, and chemical agents, which reduces the coatings? permeability, improves crack bridging properties, and enhances both modulus and strength. The Cathodic Protection Current Measurement (CPCM) tool is an in-line inspection tool that measures and records the cathodic protection (CP) current or other currents that are using the pipeline as part of a circuit. The data are stored with reference to location, and the results are displayed as a graph that shows the direction and amount of current all along the pipeline. Daniel J. (Developer) - Makati City, Philippines CorrConnect.org comprises interactive courses that translate high-level textbook content into engaging animations and games; video documentaries and simulators that combine game principles with real-life data and statistics that can be used for training and decision-making. In this new book, the author discusses complicated problems in an easy-to-understand manner, and provides some new explanations relating to the causes of corrosion, including thermodynamics of oxidation of iron and mild steels in water, reversible and irreversible potentials, influence of temperature on electrode potential, the nature and causes of polarization, polarization curves, corrosion of metals in fuels, corrosion of storage tanks containing fuels, and microbiologically influenced corrosion. (Developer) - Makati City, Philippines CorrSim is a single-player, turn-based computer simulation app for Facebook and iPad intended to teach students about the environmental factors that cause corrosion on man-made structures, the consequences of corrosion on the economy, and what can be done to protect the structures from corrosion. The fully interactive simulator combines basic corrosion and corrosion protection principles with graphics and animations in order to create an experience that is both engaging and effective. Results obtained with the test cabinet assist coating manufacturers and end users in rapidly evaluating candidate coating systems for accelerated wastewater headspace conditions. The inhibitors migrate throughout the tank vapor space and adsorb onto all exposed metal surfaces, creating a protective film on the metal surface that retards corrosion. Founded in 1943, the Association offers technical training and certification programs, conferences, industry standards, reports, publications, and software to prevent and mitigate corrosion.
