Girls soccer: Davis reflects on Seven Lakes' season

No matter how hard she was pressed, Seven Lakes girls soccer coach Amy Davis refused to say that the Lady Spartans' goal going into this season was a return to the Class 5A state tournament. [...] even now, nearly two weeks removed from their second appearance at state - where they fell 1-0 to Plano West in the championship game - Davis maintains the goal never was to make it to Georgetown. A state championship wasn't meant to be this season, but given the Lady Spartans' track record through their short history, it may just be a matter of time after another big step forward for the program. Davis admits their first trip to state was awe-inspiring, especially for a fourth-seeded team that won three shootouts and eliminated Kingwood, then one of the best clubs in the country, just to make it. "When the buzzer sounded and the game was over I did a gut check, and I looked at my team and thought 'Do we have anything to be sad about?' because so often there are those photo ops where people are crying, crying, crying," Davis said. They also return juniors Sarah Eads, who led the district in goals scored, and Shayne Clewett, a first-team all-district pick as a sophomore who spent most of this season recovering from an ACL injury.
