The redesign is part of a broader agreement designed to bring mobile apps into compliance with California's Online Privacy Protection Act, passed in 1994, which requires online service providers that collect personally identifiable information about users to post privacy policies in a conspicuous place. App developers have been under heightened scrutiny in recent weeks following the revelation that Path, a social networking app, collected and stored information from users' address books without asking permission. Subsequently, others, including Twitter, Foursquare and Instagram, acknowledged that they collected address book data as well.
